Creating compelling and informed images of nature and culture in order to promote conservation is the essence of my photography. Conservation photography combines nature photography with documentary photography to further environmental and cultural conservation.

My interest in conservation photography dates from 1980 when I was photographing Grizzly Bears and Bald Eagles in Alaska. As I soared over Anchorage in a seaplane, I witnessed the clear cutting of the forests and development that was destroying pristine wilderness and infringing on wildlife habitats. Bearing witness to this unnecessary destruction was a defining moment for me. I decided to use the power of the visual art of photography to educate and inspire so as to ensure the integrity of the natural world.

Preserving cultural icons is an important part of my photography. Our historic Route 66, also known as the Mother Road, with its vintage motel and café signs is an integral part of our culture. Throughout the year I pile my beloved pooches into the back of my SUV and off we go across Route 66 seeking out iconic and historic vintage neon signs, vintage motel signs, vintage café signs, vintage cars, vintage trucks, and all things Americana.
