Frequently asked questions

How do I get an estimate and purchase?

Please do not purchase existing listing for shade/panels/fabrics. These listings are examples of our work. Request a custom quote and provide your measurements and fabric selection. For outside mount shades we add 1-3 inches to your width and 3 inches to your length measurements to ensure shade will cover window moldings and allow room for mounting above the window. We will respond with an estimate and create a custom listing for you when ready for purchase.

Can I send in my own fabric?

Yes. We request you use a medium weight drapery or home decor fabric that is 54+ inches wide. We cannot be responsible for any flaws, color misrepresentation or delays from the vendor you are using.

Can you provide a sample of a fabric in your shop?

Yes, if it is still available. We can either set up a listing for a small fee and send you a fabric sample or direct you where to purchase (as we only stock a few select fabrics). We highly recommend ordering searches to ensure the colors, textures and overall appearance will work in your home. Our fabric orders will include nominal delivery, handling and listing fees

How do I get the proper measurements for my window treatment?

Accurate measuring is critical for fabrication of custom window treatments. Visit our blog www.drawn-co.com for a measuring guide to walk you through the process for roman shades and convo us if you still have questions. On outside mount shades we will add 1-3 inches to your width and 3 inches to your length measurements to provide covering of window moldings and four mounting above. On inside mount shades we only deduct 1/4 inch from your width measurement

Lengths and widths for custom panels will depend on various issues, including the type of header you want, the width of your window and rod, plus if you want the panels to fully close or if they are just for decor. Again, convo us with your questions and sending a photo is welcome

What are the advantages/disadvantages to using blackout lining?

Blackout lining is designed to protect fabric by blocking the light shining through.
It will make a room a lot darker but will also show off the pattern better, eliminating sun wash out. During fabrication the inner layer of insulation in the lining can be pulled out by the needle and deposited on the fabric. This is unavoidable and can leave small "pin sized" holes in the fabric where the needle sews through it. As such, bright areas of light can often be seen through the holes. We take extra steps to cover/minimize the small holes, which is one reason for the added cost. However, there may be times that your fabric has a certain make up that does not hide these holes very well. For this reason, we cannot guarantee there will be NO light.

Can you advise which window treatment will work best for me?

We do offer limited help with determining whether shades, valances or panels would work best. Yet in the end it is really personal preference. Our prices are quite lower that "big box" stores due to the customer taking responsibility for much of the design and selection process. Therefore a full consultation is not included with a typical custom quote request.

I love the look of relaxed roman shades. Are they easy to operate?

Yes, they are easy to operate but may require dressing or fold adjustments in the beginning when they are raised. The reason for this depends on factors such as: type of fabric being used and the width/length of the shade (large shades means that the pull points on the back are farther apart, thus more drooping will occur). We usually recommend scoops are spaced closer rather than far apart. Usually more than one scoop is necessary on 48+ wide windows. Photos of your window are encouraged so we can make a recommendation.

Do you accept rush orders? I have an event coming up soon.

Yes we do if time allows it and depending on the size of the order. There is a rush fee. Some times of the year are busier than others so it will depend on our current production schedule and decided on a case by case basis. Our standard lead time 6-8 weeks

What kind of finishing can I expect with my custom window treatment?

All products are fabricated according to Workroom Standards. Fabric is cut with identical repeat placement in mind, meaning each of your panels/shades will look exactly the same. High quality sateen lining, metal rods, self piping and cording to meet federal safety regulations are included. These details provide a professionally finished product that hangs perfectly. Often shades will need to be steamed and dressed to hang perfectly. A professional stylist/interior designer can help with this or many of our clients choose to do this on their own upon receipt. All that being said, out products are all handmade and do display slight variations associated with this type of fabrication.

What if I measured wrong and the shade/panel doesnt fit?

Measuring is critical and we are happy to provide instructions and assistance upfront. Final details of your order will be in your custom listing and we ask for a final review to ensure it is correct prior to purchasing. Unfortunately, the buyer accepts responsibility for getting the measurements correct. If a mistake does occur, we can try to make adjustments if possible.
