In 2010, Sara quit her architecture job in Colorado and moved to Maui to start her own handmade clothing company. Sara desired to be her own boss, have a positive influence on the fashion industry, live in tropical paradise and have the freedom to travel both for fabric and inspiration!

With a background in drafting, sustainable building, a lifetime of hobby sewing and one job back in the day for a designer named Angela Keslar (who was actually on Project Runway!), Sara learned how to make her own patterns and generally figure things out as she went with the aid of books and the internet. The swimwear as a focus was unplanned, but unfolded naturally being on Maui.

Everything at INDIE ATTIRE is handmade by Sara with extraordinary attention to detail. These clothes are built to last and worth the investment. INDIE ATTIRE swimwear will outlast other suits due to the double layer of swimwear fabric, no cheap mesh lining! This not only provides extreme durability, it also insures extra support and comfort. All fabric except the spandex for the swimwear is sustainably sourced and includes: hemp, hemp/silk blends and upcycled fabrics of all sorts.
