These step by step instructions will guide you through the process of making this box in a 24 page pdf. This box was designed to hold my collection of larger postcards, which I like to keep handy for inspiration. As it lives on my desk, I decided to incorporate places to keep paper clips, treasury tags, and the other small bits and pieces which can clutter a desk, but now live in these domes. The pattern involves some advanced techniques, including Channel Island cast on, which produces a knotted edge (used to represent carved stone work) and i-cord cast off. Instructions are given in the pattern for these. The project also involves chain stitch embroidery, and knitting in the round on 4 needles. To get the effect I wanted, I used Jamieson’s DK wool (25g per ball), as it is available in such a fabulous range of colours. You can buy it in various places around the world, or online directly from Shetland. I used:
• 3 balls of each of 3 colours for the for the walls, to get a mottled effect.
• 2 balls of 3 colours for the for the roof, to get a mottled effect.
• 5 balls for the lining.
• 1 ball each for the doors and windows, but you could easily use scraps for these colours.
You could work it in a variety of different ways, so please read the instructions before making your colour decision. The pattern uses 3.75 mm needles (UK size 9, US size 5) to make a firm fabric. Please note that this is a KNITTING PATTERN ONLY - NOT A FINAL PRODUCT. You can download the pattern and print off for yourself. The pattern is written in English.
