**How a Mountain Bound book begins**
Our book board, that is the strong cover of your book, is made of recycled, locally collected, paperboard boxes. We collect them ourselves here in Trinity County, California, USA. Currently, about a dozen families and two local businesses collect cereal boxes and other paperboard waste packaging for MBB every day. These families are my friends and people who care about this project and repurposing waste. Without them this recycled bookshop couldn't exist. I thank them so much for their support!

**The nature of Repurposing**
Mountain Bound Books makes great effort to reduce the impact on the planet we share. This opens our ability to source our materials in unconventional ways. Not only do we pick up recycling from house-to-house that turns into the cover of our books, but we search for the cover fabric in delicate ways. Often the cover of your Mountain Bound Book is made with second hand material bought from a small thrift store nestled here in Weaverville. We all lovingly know it as the Blue Barn. Shopping there helps support the Golden Age (senior) Center.
Our paper is currently made from sugar cane AKA bagasse (The ‘e’ is silent. It’s like bag-gass/). The paper has a soft linen color, not white, and uses no chlorine bleach in the process. Bagasse paper is made from the fiber waste of the sugarcane plant left after the sugar has been extracted. Sugarcane has similar qualities to bamboo as it is a rapidly renewable resource and grows exponentially faster than trees.
The glue we make in our kitchen is an original paste recipe. It utilizes a small portion of pre-made glue from a Portland, OR based company. The eco-friendly glue they make offer is very strong and is free of formaldehyde. We add clove oil to our house glue and it protects your book from mold, water, and serves as a preservative. Mountain Bound Books are not gluten free. :)

Frequently we find material that we adore but not enough of it to add to a seasonal collection. These are considered *Rares. All hardcover books and limited edition notebooks have their series number, season, year, and name printed on the back cover. All hardcover books are ready to ship.
