These sterling silver earrings represent this regal bird in an elegant design and spirit, accurately detailed in its natural setting and rendered in the proper mirror image. A freshwater pearl accent completes the design and gives a suggestion to the color of this majestic creature. The complete piece with pearl hangs 1 3/4 inches below the ear finding. I enjoyed very much designing this piece and sculpting the form of the feathery fellow. However, I did not want to attach a ring to the head of the heron for the functional purpose of hanging it from the ear. That would spoil the image as a sculpture. This led to placing the ring in the reeds and allowing the noble bird to stand free in its natural habitat. Often, functional art is an exercise in problem-solving. Absolutely stunning earrings! The design is wonderful, as it the craftsmanship - they are fully dimensional, so are complete from the back as well as the front. They arrived quickly and were well packaged. I've now ordered the companion heron pendant to complete my wedding ensemble and Jack has suggested a thoughtful embellishment that will bring the earrings and pendant into greater harmony as a set.
