"Anemone in the Field" Windflower: every antidote to the gray days of winter is written in this name. Anemone is derived from the Greek word for wind, 'Anemos'. According to mythology, the anemone flower was created when Aphrodite's mortal lover, Adonis, was killed and from the spot where her tears fell to the ground, an anemone emerged. These flowers have an almost animal spirit of joyful innocence. These particular Anemones grow in the back of my garden surrounded by weeds and monkey grass. The profusion of detail felt like a brocade tapestry, and this is what I have tried to capture in this print.
The work is created from my unique process of photographic printmaking and collage, in which I seamlessly blend layers of painted surface and my own photography. The finished work is a limited edition archival pigment print on rag paper. This print is not a reproduction of a painting, but a contemporary print using new media, in which the print itself is the only form in which the artwork exists.
The finished piece is meticulously proofed and printed on German Etching or Moab Entrada, using archival pigment inks rated to last for 100 years or more. The prints come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the edition number and the edition size.
These prints are traditionally numbered and signed in light pencil with the number on the left and the signature on the right, just below the image. They are intended to be matted with an approximately 1/2 inch space all around to reveal the signature, but can be cropped to the edge of the image if desired. Prints are sold unframed.
