Tablet Weaving For Beginners: Introduction and 10 easy patterns for 8 tablets. Written and designed by Emilia, WICIstore owner, anthropologist, heritage educator, and passionate tablet weaver. You can buy the book alone or with 10 wooden, artisan-made weaving tablets. They are well-made and will serve you for years.
ABOUT THE TABLET SET
The set consists of 10 tablets. They are hand-made by a craftsman from specially produced, high-quality plywood. Each tablet is secured with a varnish made from linseed oil. The tablets are 57 mm x 57 mm and only 1 mm thin. The thinness is important because the slimmer the tablet set is, the more comfortable it is to weave wide belts, which require many tablets. The holes are polished, so they won't cause friction on the thread. The tablets are light and will not weigh down the warp. They are really solid; they do not break or bend during weaving. I have been using my first set for years. If you want to keep wooden tablets in excellent condition, you can secure them by brushing them with a simple linseed oil once every five years.
At the moment, I have dark oak, walnut, rosewood (palisander), and natural and grey oak tablets available. Select your option in the menu.
ABOUT THE BOOK
The book is available in four language versions, ENGLISH, GERMAN (Deutsch), SPANISH (Español), NORWEGIAN (Norsk), and POLISH (Polski). Customers in Poland - please contact us before you buy.
Tablet (card) weaving is an ancient craft of making strong, narrow, decorative bands. This book explains how tablet weaving works, instructions for threading the tablets and reading patterns. Here you will find 10 simple patterns for 8 tablets. Note that these are threaded-in patterns only. No patterns requiring individual card turning are included. Practising simple patterns will train your hands in tablet rotation and how to feel a good warp tension. After some time, you will be able to make more complex figurative patterns and try other tablet weaving techniques.
What you need to start: yarn in two different colours, a set of 10 four-hole square tablets, and patience :)
YOU DO NOT NEED AN INKLE LOOM.
You will learn:
- how tablet weaving works,
- how to thread cards,
- what "S" and "Z" card positions mean,
- how to measure and prepare the yarn,
- how cards rotation works,
- how to read patterns (also those available on Pinterest etc.),
- how to weave your first band step by step.
